Online Safety

At Northwood Park Primary, we understand the vital role parents and carers play in supporting their children’s education and wellbeing. This section is designed to provide easy access to useful resources, including links to helpful websites and guides on key topics such as online safety and social media awareness. Whether you're looking for advice or expert guidance, you'll find a range of information here to support your child’s learning and development.

Online Safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded in their learning at school. We also want to help our parents and children improve their own understanding of e-safety issues so they can learn to use the internet and all digital media in a safe and secure way.

Throughout school we aim to teach children:

  • about the impact of cyber-bullying and what to do if they have been affected.

  • to be vigilant when communicating online recognising that people may not always be who they say they are 

  • about what is sensible to share and what not to share.

  • to tell an adult they trust if something is upsetting them.

  • to question the reliability of information given through a web based source.

  • to search responsibly for information while using internet browsers.

EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2

Internet Safety: The Internet Owl: Be Kind Online

‘The Internet Owl: Be Kind Online’ takes place in The Internet Jungle. There’s Toby Tiger, Marshall Monkey, Cecilia Crocodile and Helena Hippo, and all of the animals are watched over by The Internet Owl. Toby Tiger is feeling upset because the other animals left an unkind comment on his picture. As the story progresses, our students went on a journey with the Internet Owl, and helped him to teach the animals how to be kind online.

They learnt:

  • ​to talk about how anyone experiencing bullying can get help.

  • to describe how to behave online in ways that do not upset others and can give examples.

  • to describe ways that some people can be unkind online.

  • how to offer examples of how this can make others feel.

Years 3, 4 and 5

Internet Safety Assembly: One Good Choice

Years 3, 4 and 5 met Zayn, Charlie and Toni, who are best friends, and they spend lots of time playing online games and sending messages in their Group Chat. They all have something in common. They don’t know how to stay safe online!

What will Zayn do about the weird messages he’s getting in his online game? Will Toni speak up about what’s been happening in the group chat? Will Charlie learn how to keep her personal information safe online?

In this interactive and engaging assembly, our students were taught how to make One Good Choice to stay safe online.

They learnt:

  • how to capture bullying content as evidence (e.g screen-grab, URL, profile) to share with others who can help me.

  • how bullying behaviour could appear online and how someone can get support.

  • how someone can get help if they are receiving unwanted messages in an online game and identify when to tell a trusted adult.

  • how to identify examples of personal information and describe strategies for keeping it safe and private

Year 6:

Internet Safety Workshop: Power to Choose

 

Power to Choose was a positive and interactive internet safety workshop.

This engaging internet safety workshop was brought to life through character monologues performed live. Our students took part in discussions and role-play activities.

They learnt:

  • what an online scam is, and the strategies I can use to identify scams.

  • about how anyone can get help if they are being bullied online and identify when to tell a trusted adult.

  • a range of ways to report concerns and access support both in school and at home about online bullying.

  • how to block abusive users.

  • to describe the helpline services which can help people experiencing bullying, and how to access them (e.g. Childline).

  • how to capture bullying content as evidence (e.g screen-grab, URL, profile) to share with others who can help them.
