Attendance

Everyday Matters!

Regular school attendance helps children make the most of their learning, build lasting friendships and develop confidence. Being in school every day helps children feel included, connected and valued as part of our school community.

Everyday matters, as each day brings new opportunities to learn, grow and succeed. We understand that families may sometimes face challenges with attendance, and we are here to help. By working together in partnership with families, we can ensure every child feels supported, enjoys school and has the best possible start to their future. Working together, we can make every day count!

Punctuality and the School Day

Being on time for school every day helps children feel settled, confident and ready to learn. Arriving promptly allows children to organise their belongings, greet their friends and take part in morning activities from the very start of the school day.

Our school day

  • School start time: 8.40am

  • Registration time: 9.00am

If your child arrives after registration has closed, please bring them to the school office to ensure they are signed in correctly and their attendance is recorded.

Arriving late can mean children miss important instructions, morning routines and valuable learning opportunities. Starting the day on time helps children feel calm, included and prepared to make the most of their learning.

We understand that occasional delays can happen, but we encourage all families to establish regular morning routines to help children arrive at school on time.

Every minute matters, and every day counts!

Reporting Your Child’s Absence

If your child is unable to attend school, please report their absence by 10:00am each morning using one of the following methods:

When reporting an absence, please provide your child’s full name, class, reason for absence and, where possible, the expected duration.

Please remember that you must report your child’s absence for each day they are absent, unless you have already discussed the absence and its expected duration with a member of the Attendance Team.

When can my child return to school?

Your child should be well enough to take part in the school day and should meet the recommended return guidance for their illness. For some infections, such as chickenpox, impetigo and scarlet fever, specific exclusion periods apply. If you are unsure, please seek advice from a healthcare professional and contact the school.

How We Support Attendance

At Northwood Park Primary School, we understand that every family’s circumstances are different and that sometimes challenges can make regular school attendance difficult.

We are here to listen, support and work in partnership with families. If you have concerns about your child’s attendance, wellbeing or coming to school, please talk to us. We will take the time to listen, understand any barriers you may be experiencing and work with you to find practical ways to help your child attend school regularly.

Our aim is to work together positively and sensitively, ensuring every child feels safe, supported and ready to learn. Where possible, we will offer guidance, discuss appropriate support and work alongside families to improve attendance and punctuality.

Need support or advice?

Please contact our Attendance Team or speak to the school office. We are always happy to listen and discuss how we can help.

Working together, we can help every child feel confident, connected and ready to make the most of their time at school.

New Arrival – Welcome to Our School

Our New Arrival workshop welcomes new families into our school community, helping them feel informed, confident and supported as they begin their journey with us. The session provides an overview of our school day and introduces families to the key apps and systems we use, including how to report absences. We also explain the support available to promote good attendance, access pastoral care and ensure every child feels safe, happy and ready to learn.

Families will learn about our school rewards system and how we celebrate and recognise positive behaviour, achievements and contributions across the whole school.
If you were unable to attend our last New Arrival session, please refer to the information below, which covers the key areas discussed and will help you become familiar with our school routines, systems and the support available to your family.

Our aim is to build strong partnerships with families from the very beginning, ensuring everyone feels welcomed, valued and part of our school community. Please let the office know if there is anything we can help with.
