The term SEND stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. At Northwood, we strive to provide an inclusive curriculum in line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010), where all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential and to develop as happy and successful individuals. We celebrate and value the diversity of our community and take into account every child’s individual needs and experiences in order to prepare them for life beyond primary school.
Northwood is an inclusive mainstream school with ambitious aims for all of our children. In seeking to fulfil this aim, we offer a range of provisions to support children with SEND. We follow the graduated approach outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (Assess, Plan, Do, Review), carefully assessing the needs of individual children and working with external agencies where necessary to identify the most effective support for each pupil.
Everyone at Northwood treats others as they wish to be treated, and we work hard as a team to promote inclusivity and recognise diversity as a strength. We actively celebrate the contribution of all individuals and groups within the school community and ensure that access and opportunities are equally available to everyone. Children with SEND are given equal opportunities and meaningful learning experiences to discover their own talents, skills and new passions, regardless of any barriers they may face.
The SENCO, Miss D Johnson has responsibility for ensuring that the school has appropriate educational provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, working closely with staff and external agencies to support pupils effectively. The Inclusion Lead, Miss C Dowen, also works alongside staff to promote inclusive practice across the school.

Northwood Park's SEND Offer
We are committed to providing high quality teaching that allows all children, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, to embed and build-on prior learning in order to reach their full potential. Planning is personalised to meet the needs of each child and lessons taught are adapted to meet the needs of all. Staff use a variety of teaching styles, resources and additional adult support during lessons to remove any barriers to learning.

Four Broad Areas of Need
At Northwood, we recognise that there are four broad areas of need within SEND. Every child is unique, and their individual needs are carefully considered as part of our inclusive approach. While some children may have one ‘prime’ area of need, many will have needs across more than one area. We work closely as a team, led by Miss D Johnson and supported by our Inclusion Lead, Miss C Dowen, to ensure that each child receives tailored support that enables them to thrive and reach their full potential.
Disability Access
Northwood complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 2001 by ensuring that the needs of disabled people are considered when planning the education offered by the school. We have substantial and extensive facilities throughout school to ensure disability access for children, staff and visitors.
Administration of Medicines at School
Non prescribed medicines will not be administered in school. For medication that children are required to take during the day, medication should display a printed label which clearly identifies the child, dosage and number of times required. This will be kept in school and administered by a member of staff who has received administering medication training. Parents must complete a heath care form upon the start of the child's medication.
SEND Parent Forum
The SEND Parent Forum meet termly in school. The forum provides parents of children with SEND the opportunity to voice their opinions relating to SEND support in school.
The Wolverhampton Local Offer
The Wolverhampton Local Offer sets out all services available to support children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities, from birth to 25 years, and their families.

Any complaints will be handled by your child's class teacher in the first instance, then by Miss D Johnson or Miss C Dowen using our complaints policy.
Concerns, Compliments & Complaints
If you are concerned that your child may have additional needs, please contact your child's class teacher in the first instance. If you wish to contact the SENCO directly, please email the school office with the subject: FAO Miss D Johnson.
Compliments are always greatly received and can be passed on, either directly to staff and/or the SENCO. They can also be formally recorded via our regular questionnaires to parents or in the form of a letter to the Head Teacher and/or the Inclusion Lead.
Any complaints to do with Special, Educational Needs and/or Disabilities can be dealt with by Miss D Johnson via our Complaints Policy procedures.

Our collaborative approach, working closely with families, external agencies, and the pupils themselves, ensures that SEN learners thrive both academically and socially. Through reflective practice and a shared ethos of inclusion, Northwood continues to strengthen outcomes and opportunities for all.
