Mental Health & Wellbeing

“Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” (World Health Organization)

At Northwood Park, we strive to promote positive mental health for all pupils, staff and parents within our school community. We believe every pupil should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and to develop as happy and successful individuals. We aim to work together in harmony to promote positive mental health as well as support our children to build emotional resilience and develop strategies that equip them to look after their own mental health in order to prepare them for life beyond primary school.

We have developed a range of strategies to support our pupils’ mental health and well-being including:

  • Pupil-led activities such as events and assembles to help promote and raise awareness of Mental Health and Well-being.

  • Roles and responsibilities within school to promote positive mental health such as our Cheer Champions.

  • Transition support including meetings and additional provision for children undergoing change.

  • Classroom strategies such as worry boxes, mindfulness activities and fidget boxes.

  • Whole school strategies through our curriculum.

  • Small group interventions and support delivered by our highly skills Family Liaison Team.
