 Our Curriculum Statement of Intent

At Northwood Park, we believe all children should be given the opportunity to explore and contribute to the world in a way they are passionate about. We aim to equip them with the skills, knowledge and characteristics required to open as many doors to themselves as possible.

At Northwood Park Primary School the curriculum is designed to:

  • Recognise, embed and build-on children’s prior learning to create meaningful learning which is committed to long-term memory.

  • Provide first-hand learning experiences which develop curiosity and allow the children to apply their learning.

  • Give opportunities to discover hidden talents, skills and new passions.

  • Create independent thinkers who are aspirational, confident and prepared to challenge views in opposition to their personal values and beliefs.

  • Develop the attitudes and values which will support children to grow as happy and successful individuals.

  • Provide children with lessons which develop their understanding of the opportunities available to them in the fields of engineering and computing to support our local industries.

Everyone at Northwood Park has high expectations of themselves in all areas and believe success comes from three simple things: Working hard. Working together and working in way which makes us proud. We grow together through creating understanding and empathy and sharing experiences and successes as a team. We are stronger because of the diversity of our community and we celebrate the different strengths and perspectives we all offer. The curriculum is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values, with a vision to prepare all children for life beyond primary school. We strive to provide enrichment opportunities to engage learning, not just with our children but also with our families.

Northwood Park is a team in every sense of the word – the children, staff and families work together towards one shared goal. We strive to make the most of every opportunity, supporting and challenging each other to achieve our fullest potential. Community involvement is an integral part of our curriculum and we are proud to be a part of local activity and support. Our doors are always open to families, external agencies, other professionals and community groups.

Children leave Northwood Park with a sense of belonging to a tightly-knit community as well as a clear view of the wealth of possibilities available to them. They have the confidence and skills they need to pursue their dreams, by building relationships, applying themselves creatively and meeting life’s challenges with a smile on their face.
